Day 71: My European Adventure Comes To A Close
I slept a couple of hours after work and woke up at around 8am. My flight was at 12:10pm and I needed to take the Metro to Roma Termini before taking the train to the airport. I made sure to pack and get everything ready the day before.
I left the apartment right before 9am and walked over to the Metro. It was a short, 15-minute ride to the main train station where I hopped on the express train to the airport. It took 30 minutes to get to the airport and I quickly made my way over to the Delta check-in desk.
I never check any bags but because I had purchased a duffel bag for my new Zara clothes, I had to. I wasn’t going to be able to sneak two carry-on bags onto the airplane plus a personal item. Luckily it was free to check my suitcase.
The boarding process in Rome seemed a bit unorganized but we finally all made it onto the plane and were ready to depart. It was crazy how quickly the trip flew by, but I was ready to go home.
After about nine hours, we landed at JFK. I had a little over an hour to transfer planes and catch my connecting flight to LAX. Since I never check my luggage, I didn’t know I needed to grab my bag from the carousel and re-check it. Once I found out, I tried to go back but since my trip involved international travel, I wasn’t allowed back inside and had to leave without my suitcase.
I slept most of the flight from JFK to LAX and noticed that they had expedited my suitcase on the next flight to LAX the following morning. It was unfortunate that I’d need to come back to LAX, but at least my bag wasn’t lost.
We landed at around 9:30pm and I took an overpriced Uber to get home. I unpacked my duffel bag and purse, and then headed to bed. It had been almost an entire day of travel and I was exhausted. I was happy to be back in Los Angeles and to sleep in my own bed again, but so tired.
It was good to be home.
