I woke up at around 10am in order to check out of the hostel at 11am and catch the 11:35am train to Naples. This meant that I got around 3 hours of sleep, but the excitement of heading to a new place kept me awake. It was going to be a long travel day with two trains and a bus so I needed to be alert.
It was a short walk to the train station and from there I navigated my way to the correct platform. The train from Rome to Naples was a little over an hour and I split the time between looking out the window and resting my eyes. After arriving in Naples, I had to catch the Circumvesuviana train from Naples to Sorrento. The station was hard to find and I did a lap before finally figuring it out. There also weren’t any escalators so I had a great time carrying my luggage down the stairs.
The train from Naples to Sorrento was a little over an hour as well, but the inside felt more like a metro so I didn’t want to fall asleep and leave my things out in the open. The station in Sorrento was super small and the bus that I’d take down the Amalfi Coast was easy to find. I bought a ticket at the convenience store and then waited for the next bus to arrive.
I sat on the right side of the bus for an optimal view of the coastline. The views were incredible and after about 40 minutes, we made it to my stop in Positano.
It looked like a short, 10 minute walk to the Airbnb but it was directly up multiple flights of stairs. I climbed two sets with all of my stuff and then immediately walked back down. I had to find a different way. I ended up taking the longer way around on the main road so that I could wheel my suitcase. The weather was chilly but walking uphill with my stuff was exhausting and I was getting hot. As luck would have it, the bag holding my spare groceries from Rome and my jacket broke. I ended up wrapping everything in my coat and ditching it a few blocks away from the Airbnb. I’d have to come back for it.
The Airbnb was a bit tricky to find, but I was so relieved when I got inside. It was the perfect spot to relax for the next 5 nights. The kitchen was super cute, the shower was a beautiful bright blue, and the views from the balcony were gorgeous. It was everything that I had hoped it’d be.
I went back for my other stuff and was able to finally settle in after my travel day. It was around 5pm at this point and I was more than ready for a nap. Despite the lack of sleep I’d gotten, I wanted to try and stick to my schedule, even on my off days, so that meant staying up until early morning.
I slept until 11pm and by the time I woke up, it was too late to go to the grocery store. I whipped something up from the groceries that I had leftover from Rome and worked on some TikTok videos and blog posts. I ended up going to sleep a little earlier than usual at 5am, but I felt like I’d done a decent job of sticking to my schedule during a travel/off day.
