I woke up at around 2pm, got ready quickly, and headed straight to the train station. I planned to visit Piazza San Marco and Basilica de San Marco. It was a bit of a walk from the Santa Lucia station, so I took the ACTV water taxi.
After about 20-25 minutes, we arrived on the other side of the island. I sat outside for half the trip and then went inside once I got cold. It was an especially chilly day, so I tried to avoid being outside as much as I could.
Entrance was £3 so I paid and went right in. I walked around for a bit, decided to skip the add-on visits for an additional fee, and then went to grab something to eat.
There was a place nearby called Caffé Florian that had good reviews so I decided to check it out. It’s considered the oldest cafe in Europe and opened in 1790. It was definitely on the pricier side but worth the visit. I ordered some fennel and licorice herbal tea, plus a croissant with zucchini, bell peppers, and eggplant.
I decided that I needed to get a hat to keep warm, so I headed to H&M and did a little shopping. I ended up picking up a cute hoodie to layer under my big coat as well. I then hopped back on the water taxi.
Even though it was cold, I wanted to sit outside to see the view at night as we crossed the water. I was freezing, but it was worth it. I then took the train back to the hostel. It had been a fairly chilly day, but I felt like I’d done a good job of exploring despite the weather.
Since I wasn’t working, I went to sleep a few hours early at 5am.
