I woke up early again and decided to check out Café Central, a coffeehouse with live piano music and beautifully decorated walls. I also planned to attend a ballet at the Vienna Opera House later in the evening.
I ordered vegan almond soup with a handmade roll and Viennese apple strudel with vanilla ice cream. About halfway through eating, the live music began which created a nice atmosphere.
Afterwards, I headed back to the hostel because I wanted to rest before the ballet. I walked through Michaelerplatz and the Spanish Riding School on my way back, in addition to Maria-Theresian-Platz and the Mozart monument.
Near the Spanish Riding School I saw a crowd of people, lots of police, and tons of media. I wasn’t sure what was happening but I looked it up afterwards and King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain were visiting the country. I stuck around for a bit and then continued on my way.
After resting for a couple hours, I went to Tolstoy again to grab some food before the ballet. This time I got the Mango Basil Curry. I also got a latte since I’d been feeling a bit tired and despite the fact that I don’t like coffee, I felt that it was needed in this moment.
This was the point where my night hit a snag. I arrived at the ballet and showed my ticket plus CDC card, only to find out that I wasn’t allowed in. Despite the fact that the ticket only stated the vaccination requirement, there had been an update on the website that I didn’t see and a negative PCR test was required as well.
I was pretty disappointed to miss out on the ballet and had to make time to come back the next day for a refund when the box office was open. I ended up just heading back to the hostel and taking a much-needed nap before starting work.
