Since the first day I arrived in Vienna, I wanted to go ice skating and it was finally the day. I got ready and headed out at around 2pm to get my ballet refund at the Vienna Opera House and grab a bite to eat.
When I went to the box office, I was told that I would only be able to receive a refund in the form of a voucher. This is exactly what I was afraid of and the people working there would not budge, despite me explaining the discrepancy between the ticket and website and the fact that I didn’t live in Vienna. I was given an email to contact to see if they’d make an exception so I figured I’d give it a shot and if all else fails, I would try to submit a dispute with my bank. This was just a small snag on my trip but since I was exhausted, it put a bit of a damper on my day.
I decided it was time to move on and to leave the Opera House fiasco in the past. There was a place I had seen over the past few days called Veggiezz so I decided to check it out. I ordered a Spicy Vegan Burger with fries since I’d been craving a veggie burger. I also got a lemonade.
After eating, it was ice skating time. I walked over to the Wiener Eistraum rink and since I’d pre-purchased my skate rentals and ticket, I was laced up and ready within minutes. Shoutout to eurythmy shoes because I immediately knew which size ice skates to get without looking up shoe size conversions online.
I skated for about two hours; on the above rink, the below rink, and through the various paths among the trees. I watched the sun set from the ice and as it got colder, I decided to call it quits when I could barely feel my hands.
I stopped at Naschmarkt for food and chose Li’s Cooking for dinner, ordering a curry dish and Pad Thai to take home for later that evening.
After eating, I headed back to the hostel and took a brief nap before doing laundry and signing on for work. Ice skating lived up to its expectations and I’m glad I went.
