I woke up at around 1pm, determined to find my way up to Nocelle via public transport without having to climb 1,700 steps. I got ready for the day, grabbed my tripod, and headed down to the Chiesa Nuova bus stop. I opted for my black booties instead of sneakers because I wanted them in my pictures and I didn’t plan to hike too far down the trail.
I got on the bus and like the previous day, he asked if I was going to the center. I told him that I was going to Nocelle so he had the other bus wait for me and brought me over. With a little help, I was finally on my way.
I watched Positano and the beach get smaller and smaller as we climbed the mountain to Nocelle. After about 20 minutes, we arrived and the view was incredible. It’s a very small town but a popular place for people to pass through as they complete the Sentiero degli Dei or “Path of the Gods” trail. I passed some cats bathing in the sunlight and a few horses walking up the stairs.
I made my way through the town to the Sentiero degli Dei hiking trail and walked around 3/4 of a mile. It was a beautiful, sunny day and the scenery was stunning. Being able to look out over layers of mountains in the distance was really cool.
After taking some photos, I headed back towards the town and down to Lemon Point, a juice stand at the top of the stairs from Arienzo. The sun was beginning to set so I started making my way down. I saw a perfect spot to take photos, so I set up my phone with the tripod and captured golden hour.
I was a bit hesitant about taking the stairs down because I wasn’t in the ideal shoes and the sun was almost down at this point. I didn’t want to get stuck in the middle of the woods in the dark. I decided that I’d be disappointed in myself if I missed out and took the bus, so I continued on my way, stopping to take photos but walking as quickly as I could.
After 1,700 steep steps, I made it to Arienzo. From there, it was a 20 minute walk to the center of Positano. I enjoyed the last bit of sunlight as I walked down the winding streets. Once I made it to Positano, I caught the bus back up to Chiesa Nuova and then went back to the apartment.
Getting to and from Nocelle was definitely a trek, but it was worth it. It was the perfect way to spend my last full day in Positano. After I got back to the apartment, I took a nap and started to prepare for my travel day the following morning. I wanted to make sure that I got as much sleep as possible before checking out of the Airbnb at 10am.
I got everything packed and then started work. As the end of my shift neared, the sun was coming up and I went to sleep right around 7am. Positano was good to me and I’m so glad I made the visit.
